Since I’m both an Instructional Designer and Compliance Pofessional, my portfolio contains examples of both types of work.

Short interaction built in Articulate Storyline 360

Short Scenario Interaction

Scenarios lend themselves well to compliance training since they relate to on-the-job challenges. Knowing your audience and understanding the types of compliance issues they face helps learners transfer their new knowledge to their on-the-job experiences. Sample Compliance Scenario

Articulate Rise

Sample course created in Articulate Rise eLearning development tool. This course took less than two hours to create because of Rise’s fast development tools. Consider using Rise for your next course.

Sample Course

Sample Course – Class Project

In this class project, we each anonymously received a classmate’s eLearning storyboard. The assignment rules limited the design to only the colors and content contained in the storyboard document and we weren’t allowed to ask questions or clarify the requirements. From the storyboard, I created this Fly Fishing course in Storyline 360.

PowerPoint Transformed into an Articulate course

Experiential Learning – Adult Learning Theory

This group project examines experiential learning by following the character “Ashlee” through her work day.

The group collaborated on a shared PowerPoint file then the final version was migrated to Articulate Presenter where I added arrows, animations, and audio. Articulate Presenter turns out to be a very fast way to transform a PowerPoint into a SCRORM ready course. Experience in Learning

Six Adult Learning Principle based on M. Knowles

Adult Learning Theory

Infographic describing six assumptions about Adult Learning theory based upon Malcolm Knowles, The Adult Learning: A Neglected Species (1973).

Many compliance courses miss consideration of Adult Learning Theory in their design. For example, what we choose to learn is closely related to real-life experiences. When compliance training is too generic and not relevant to the employee’s job, it’s ineffective.

Compliance Hotline Poster

Hotline Poster

Public companies are required to have multiple ways for employees to report possible compliance or ethics issues. This requirement falls under the 4th element of an effective compliance department “Open Lines of Communication” and somewhat under the 7th element, “Responding to Issues.”

Here’s a poster I designed for the program.

Quick Guide to Narration in eLearning

When designing training careful consideration should be given to using audio narration and animation. This guide reviews best practice based on research studies.

UDL Framework
UDL Framework – Class Assignment

Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

UDL is a learning framework that creates inclusive learning strategies for all learners. Just as we are unique individuals, so is how we learn. By approaching Instructional Design with an awareness of the UDL principles, we give our learners the choice and flexibility they need to be successful.
